The death of a rare whale has sparked outrage against whale watchers

It is noted that the 8-meter whale was found dead in the waters off Shelter Island by local fishermen and was sent for autopsy. Presumably, the dead individual could be the same Bryde’s striped whale that was spotted off Saikun on July 13. It had fresh wounds on its back, as well as signs of past injuries.

According to the Hong Kong Free Press, many online users have concluded that if it is the same species that was spotted at Saikun, its death may have been triggered by tourists who rushed out to observe the animal from boats.
