Manchester has developed and tested the largest quadrocopter in the world

A group of engineers from the University of Manchester, passionate about building the world’s largest drone, decided not only to break the world record, but also to try not to violate British UAV law. UK law allows drones to fly without permits as long as their takeoff weight does not exceed the 25 kg mark. Following this rule, the team designed a drone weighing 24.5 kg and measuring a whopping 6.4 meters wide.

The design received a box frame made of foam plastic 5 millimeters thick. Each part was precision laser-cut, and all components were glued together. The resulting frame was glued with a thin layer of cardboard. As a result, the optimal ratio of strength, weight and dimensions of the device was achieved. The developers placed 4 compact electric motors, battery pack and control system elements on the frame.
