The first signs of an unusual object were detected back in the mid-90s of the last century, when a geological group worked on mapping ancient Egyptian stone quarries. The scientists found that they were dealing with a 12-kilometer stretch of road lined with blocks of limestone and sandstone and going from one of the quarries to Lake Moeris.
Subsequent excavations led to the discovery of an ancient labor camp. Fragments of pottery and other artifacts allowed archaeologists to conclude: the road was used in XXVII-XXIII centuries BC, so it can well be called the oldest known on the planet so far.
